Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6 – October 10, 2002
Call to Order of the October 10, 2002 Meeting
Chairman Stanley Bem called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 4:00 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area High School. Present were: Stanley Bem, Dean Rossi, David Heim, Norman Krumenacker, Gary Jubas, Michael Sakash, Vince Nedimyer, Alberta Ake, Susan Werner, Jules Dill, Don Hosterman, Albert D’Ambrosia, David Crumrine, Kim Struble, Dr. Charles Koren and Ray Wotkowski.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the September 12, 2002, meeting were approved on a motion by Vince Nedimyer and David Crumrine with an attachment to the October 10, 2002, minutes to include a list of Foreign Exchange Students that were approved at the September 12, 2002, meeting.
Communications
Chairman Bem received the list of officials that were recommended for the following state tournaments: cross country, volleyball, field hockey, soccer and football.
Dave Heim reviewed reports regarding Football and Soccer player and coach disqualifications. No further action was taken by the Committee.
Chairman Bem received a letter notify him that Somerset Area High School was fined for failure to attend the Mandatory Rules Interpretation meeting for boys soccer.
Chairman Bem received a letter from Don Amoriello, Athletic Director at Bellefonte Area High School, informing the Committee of an ineligible player on the junior high softball and golf team. Bellefonte forfeited the following contests, softball games with Mt. Nittany and Lewistown, golf meets with Penns Valley and Philipsburg Osceola, according to Article XII, Section 3 of the PIAA By-Laws. His actions were accepted on a motion by Vince Nedimyer and Jules Dills.
Financial Reports
On a motion by Don Hosterman and Susan Werner, the Committee unanimously approved the September Financial Report.
Committee members were given a copy of a proposal for consolidating account practices, which would enable consistent accounting procedures for PIAA Headquarters and all PIAA District.
The following fall tournament reports were given:
Cross Country – Don Hosertman
Golf and Tennis – Dean Rossi
Field Hockey – Susan Werner
Volleyball – Kathy Getz- There will be three AAA teams from District 9 and five AA teams from District 5 participating in the volleyball tournament.
Soccer – Albert D’Ambrosia
Football – Jules Dill
Clarification of point accumulation G. J. A. V. T. Schools that were scheduled to play Johnstown Vo-Tech were awarded a forfeit win.
Class A school received 100 points
Class AA schools received 80 points
Example: Team A received a forfeit win for Vo-Tech. If team A is a Class A team, then team A received 100 points.
Team B which is also a Class a team plays team A and beats team A, team B then receives 100 points for the victory and 10 power points for the forfeit win. Any questions call Jules Dill at 814-472-8860.
Approval of Tournaments
The following tournaments were approved on a motion by Jules Dill and Vince Nedimyer: Williamsburg Lady Pirate Booster Tip-off, Williamsburg Booster’s Holiday, Moshannon Valley Basketball, West Branch Tip-off, Conemaugh Valley Jr. High Basketball, Hilltoppers Girls Classic, and 13th Annual Lewistown Wretlerette.
Eligibility Hearings
On a motion by Ray Wotkowski and Vince Nedimyer, Matthew Gibbons was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 9B, Athletic Transfer Waiver. Dean Rossi and Charles Koren abstained from voting.
On a motion by Susan Werner and David Heim, Yousuf and Imran Sulemankhil, were granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 11, Transfer and Residence.
On a motion by Ray Wotkowski and Dean Rossi, Daniel Ramirez was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 3-C, Transfer and Residence.
On a motion by Susan Werner and Michael Sakash, Todd Michael Berringer was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 3-C, Transfer and Residence.
On a motion by Charles Koren and Jules Dill, Ethan J. Druckenmiller, was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 11, Transfer and Residence.
On a motion by Don Hosterman and Dean Rossi, Brian Thoms was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 10A, Transfer and Residence. Charles Koren abstained from voting and we had three non voting participants.
On a motion by Charles Koren and David Crumrine, Jonathan Millard Beard was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 8A, Transfer and Residence.
On a motion by Susan Werner and Michael Sakash, Sarah Jean Pentland, was granted eligibility based on Article VI, Section 9B, Transfer and Residence. Vince Nedimyer abstained from voting.
These students entered their respective schools after the first day of school.
Foreign Exchange Eligibility Hearings
On a motion by Ray Wotkowski and Kim Struble, the following foreign exchange students have a J1 VISA, PIAA Foreign Exchange International Students, were approved for athletics:

The Next Meeting
The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at 4:00 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School.
