Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6 – January 8, 2004

 

Call to Order of the January 8, 2004, Meeting

Chairman Wotkowski called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 4:00 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area High School. Present were: Ray Wotkowski, Alberta Ake, David Crumrine, Albert D’Ambrosia, Jules Dill, Don Hosterman, Gary Jubas,  Charles Koren, Vince Nedimyer, James Price, Dean Rossi, Michael Sakash, Kim Struble, and Susan Werner.

 

Approval of Minutes

On a motion from Jules Dill and Vince Nedimyer, the minutes of the December 11,  2003, meeting was approved.

 

Communications

The Committee reviewed a disqualification report of a basketball player. The Committee took no further action.

 

Chairman Wotkowski received a letter from Portage Area High School requesting a cooperative sports agreement with Bishop Carroll in the sport of soccer.  On a motion by Albert D’Ambrosia and Susan Werner the motion was passed, Charles Koren abstained from voting.

 

Chairman Wotkowski received a letter from John Maier, Principal, Richland High School requesting that District 6 assign Richland High School a Class “A” football schedule for the 2004 and 2005 football seasons in order for student athletes to compete against schools in the same classification.

 

Financial Reports

On a motion by Kim Struble and Don Hosterman, the Committee unanimously approved the December Financial Report.

 

On a motion by Dean Rossi and Susan Werner, the Committee approved the Football Financial Report prepared by Vince Nedimyer and to reimburse the District 5 and 6 schools the recommended amounts.

 

On a motion by Michael Sakash and Don Hosterman, the Committee approved the recommendation to forward District 5 $10,000.00 for their involvement in the District 5/6 Tournament.

 

Vince Nedimyer would like to express his thanks to all the athletic directors, game managers,  and schools who were host sites for this year’s playoffs. 

 

Terry Shook, Barnes Saly Representative, attended the January meeting and reviewed the District 6 audit with the Committee.

 

Eligibility Hearings

On a motion by Charles Koren  and David Crumrine, Juan Vereute,  a Bald Eagle Area High School student, is eligible for sports based on Article VI, Section 8, Transfer and Residence, with a vote of 14-0.

 

On a motion by Charles Koren  and Jules Dill, Spencer Nicholson,  a Hollidaysburg Area High School student, is eligible for sports based on Article VI, Section 8, Transfer and Residence, with a vote of 13-0, Dean Rossi abstaining.

 

On a motion by Albert D’Ambrosia  and Dean Rossi, William Dobo,  a West Branch High School student, is eligible for sports based on Article VI, Section 8, Transfer and Residence, with a vote of 13-0, Kim Struble abstaining.

 

On a motion by Dean Rossi and James Price, Brady Hoover,  a Altoona Area High School student, is ineligible for basketball based on Article VI, Section 9, Items 2, 3, and 4,  Transfers for Athletic Purpose, with a vote of 9-2, Alberta Ake and Vince Nedimyer abstaining.

 

Foreign Exchange Eligibility Hearings

There were no foreign exchange eligibility hearings.

 

Information

Swimming and Diving packets will be mailed to all participating schools’ Athletic Directors by January 15, 2004.  If your school has swimmers and you did not receive a packet please call Susan Werner at 814-234-5078 or email  WERNERSC@aol.com.

 

On a motion by Michael Sakash and Jules Dill, there will be a “No Cut Policy” in the basketball playoffs at this year’s tournament.  The nets will be mailed to the winning schools at the end of the tournament. 

 

The Next Meeting

The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 4:00 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area High School.
